Absolute Batman #17 released its round of cover images to preview the next issue of the serious. It spotlights Poison Ivy as the next antagonist for Batman to battle.
Breaking Down Ivy’s Absolute Look
Upon first look, Ivy’s design seems to be fairly similar to her traditional mainstream DC universe version. However, added colors schemes are included in her design. Typically she sports variations of green with her vibrantly red hair. Here, we golden brown and white on her outfit with an ombre red and gold hair coloring. What deviates more is that it appears much of her “outfit” is actually a part of her. You can spot green veins running up and down her arms.
Even more interesting, a plant and bird features are on Ivy . Notice that her bodice and collar is adorned with feathers. Also her left shoulder seems to have a bird talon on it. Perhaps this version of Ivy is spliced with bird DNA. It could be a pun off of the “Birds of Prey” plants as well as a type of predatory bird.
What We’ve Seen So Far of Absolute Poison Ivy
Fans have seen a tease of Absolute Poison Ivy already. In Absolute Batman #10, an escaping Batman ran around the black ops genetic laboratory Ark M. Amongst all of the genetic experiments, Batman also encountered the “Isley Ecosystem”. Inside the room, a non-humanoid, but sentient forest of trees featured vaguely human faces on their trunks. Then the forest seemed to have created an army of tree people screaming “Outtt… the Greeeeen wantsss out…” .
In the main DC Universe, the Green is the elemental force for all plant and vegetation life in the universe. The comic seems to suggest that Absolute Poison Ivy is connected to the Swamp Thing- who has yet to appear in Absolute form.
My guess? Absolute Poison Ivy is a sentient plant life that can change form. I predict she can take the form of a seductive female to best lure human prey.
Absolute Batman #17 hits comic book shops on February 11th.
