‘Batman/ Green Arrow/ The Question: Arcadia’ Is the New Black Label Series

DC announced the release of their next Black Label comic Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia.

Arcadia is a new four-issue monthly comic book series. Gabriel Hardman serves as both the writer and artist of the comic.

Bruce Wayne is helping fund a new climate-friendly, sea-worthy city Arcadia.  It looks to be a future-forward utopia, but the Green Arrow and Question are there to investigate the darker side of this project.

It starts off with  Question deep undercover in a human-trafficking ring in the Arctic. Meanwhile, Oliver Queen is in the process of being ousted by his own company. But he then realizes that Queen Industries is also involved in the Arcadia project. Eventually, Green Arrow and the Question’s adventures converge, they are stopped by Batman of all people.

What threat is so big that it has to unite Batman, Green Arrow and the Question? Even more interesting, will these ideologically-different heroes be able to all work together before it is too late?

‘Arcadia’s Inspiration

Writer/ artists Hardman stated that the story is highly inspired by the old 80’s run of comics. Mike Grell’s Green Arrow run and the biting Denny O’Neil run on The Question in particular are heavily influential.

“I’ve wanted to tell a story about Batman, Green Arrow and the Question since I was 14 years old and I couldn’t be more excited to finally get the chance. While I’m taking inspiration from the great work of Denny O’Neil, Denys Cowan and Mike Grell, this series isn’t an exercise in nostalgia. I’m taking the grounded approach they spearheaded in the late 80s and moving forward, having these three difficult, opinionated personalities confront a contemporary brand of criminality on a global scale.”

Arcadia will feature a main cover by Hardman and variant covers from Kevin Nowlan and old The Question art team Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz. Interestingly, the Cowan and Sienkiewicz variant is reusing promotional art from 1988 crossover between Detective Comics, Green Arrow, and The Question. That variant will be available in the typical card stock and “virgin” foil versions.

Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia hits comic shops on November 26th.
