‘Gotham High’ – A New Take On Well Known DC Characters

Article by John Hammond

You may have noticed that DC Comics have released quite a few YA graphic novels in recent months. The latest, Gotham High, gives us a new take on well know DC characters. It’s something that you won’t have seen before. Yes, you know the characters; Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle… and others.

Written by Melissa de la Cruz it features illustrations by Thomas Pitilli. Now, I’ve only seen a few preview pages of this, and I hope to get the chance to read it very soon. That said, it’s already being praised, with Margaret Stohl (#1 New York Times best selling author) saying that this is Melissa de la Cruz doing what she does best. High praise indeed. Obviously, I can’t comment on that myself, but seeing this makes you believe that we’re onto winner here.

Thomas Pitilli you may already know. He’s the illustrator for comics based on the TV show, Riverdale. Again, not that I can comment fully, but from what I have seen the art really does lend it self to a YA/high school story graphic novel. They are a perfect match.

What’s it about?

Check out the official synopsis from DC Comics:

After being kicked out of his boarding school, 16-year-old Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City to find that nothing is as he left it. What once was his family home is now an empty husk, lonely but haunted by the memory of his parents’ murder. Selina Kyle, once the innocent girl next door, now rules over Gotham High School with a dangerous flair, aided by the class clown, Jack Napier.

When a kidnapping rattles the school, Bruce seeks answers as the dark and troubled knight—but is he actually the pawn? Nothing is ever as it seems, especially at Gotham High, where the parties and romances are of the highest stakes…and where everyone is a suspect.

Furthermore, you can also check out the official trailer for Gotham High here:

That’s not all. If you’re intrigued by Gotham High and what is a very interesting new take on classic DC Comics characters, you can find a preview containing the first 4 pages of the book right here.

I urge you all to check it out. Whether you’re a young or ‘older’ adult, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in this book. I’ll certainly be ensuring that I get a copy as soon as possible.

If you take a look and read the preview, or if you’ve been lucky enough to read the book already, please let us know your thoughts.
