DC To Release a Series of ‘DC Super Hero Girls’ Graphic Novels

Hot off the heels of Cartoon Network’s premiere of the DC Super Hero Girls show, DC Comics have announced a new line of graphic novels, set in the same universe created by show creator Lauren Faust.

Amy Wolfram (Teen Titans Go!) will write the graphic novel series, which will tell original stories starring Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Supergirl and other DC characters set in the same universe as the new DC Super Hero Girls cartoon.

Here is Wolfram on her excitement for writing the graphic novels.

I’m very excited to be working on DC Super Hero Girls. Not only do we get to see these iconic superheroes in action as they protect Metropolis, we also get to peek behind the masks and capes to see their secret identities as they deal with an even greater challenge–being a teenager in high school!

DCSHG artist Yancey Labat, on her collaboration with Wolfram.

I’m so excited to work with Amy on this new series. The new look is fun to draw. The characters are very expressive and over-the-top, and I love the zaniness and looseness of the designs.

The first book is titled DC Super Hero Girls: At Metropolis High. It will follow Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Green Lantern, Bumblebee and Zatanna in high school. Check out the official solicitation below for the full synopsis.

DC SUPER HERO GIRLS: AT METROPOLIS HIGH

A new era of DC Super Hero Girls begins in the upcoming original graphic novel DC SUPER HERO GIRLS: AT METROPOLIS HIGH! When Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Green Lantern, Bumblebee and Zatanna are continually late to class because of their crime-fighting, they are told to find an after-school club for a whole week or else be suspended. But finding a club is not as easy as it looks, and when the girls keep finding themselves kicked out of the clubs, they must think outside of the box and go out of their comfort zones to avoid suspension. Just when they thought balancing school with secret identities and super-heroing had enough challenges.
