The Batman Prequel focusing on our favorite Bat-Dad, Alfred Pennyworth has added two new members to their casting team. Epix has revealed Ryan Fletcher (Shetland, Outlander) and Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Casualty, Eastenders) will be joining the Pennyworth cast.

In DKN’s previous article on Pennyworth, we gave fans Epix’s official description of the new show:

The 10-episode, one-hour drama series is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire Thomas Wayne, who’s not yet Bruce’s father, in 1960s London.

Pennyworth builds a team of three that includes the characters Dave Boy and Bazza. Ryan Fletcher will be playing the character Dave Boy, a disorderly Highland Scotsman who is slowly drinking himself to death since leaving the army. He is a close friend and ally of Alfred and Bazza (Bennett). Out of the three, he is the most unpredictable.

Bennett will portray Bazza from the trio, who are life-long army friends. He is a charming, rich playboy with intelligent skills. He is highly talented in organizing logistics. Alfred values Bazza’s charm and intelligence, and they become inseparable.

Alfred is described as:

A boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London. Honest, open-faced and witty; you’d never take him for an SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.

Perfect! This is a fun and great take on the Batman mythos. We can explore a character for over 75 years, but pulling creations from the beloved supporting characters is what makes comics live on. I would love a series based on Selina Kyle or Thomas and Martha Wayne. Here’s to hoping that this 10 episode series brings many more stories to life!
