Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment have announced that Cathy Yan will be directing a yet to be titled female led movie. The film is most likely set to star Margot Robbie, as Suicide Squad’s female lead; Harley Quinn. Yan will be the second female director to work with DC, after Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins. With Wonder Woman’s success, it’s no wonder the powers that be at DC and Warner Bros. have chosen Yan to direct a female led production. Yan is a relatively unknown director, only having one feature length film to her name. Dead Pigs, which won the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance last January.

Birds of Prey Connection?

The project is thought to be based on DC’s all female comic title, Birds of Prey, which had its own TV series in early 2000s, in which Harley Quinn was the big bad. The comic follows a team of female crime fighters, Batgirl, Black Canary and Huntress, as they save the day together. The script for this untitled production having been written by Christina Hodson, who has been announced on the upcoming Batgirl title, which means that Batgirl could feature heavily in the movie.

Although it’s yet to be confirmed as to which characters will be gracing the big screen, it’s clear that the two main characters, and the majority of supporting characters will be female.

Needless to say that should this be a Birds of Prey related film, DC can already take my money!
