Just a day after the trailer dropped, WB decided to keep the hype going by revealing the release date, cover art, and the extras to be featured.

Looks like Spring is coming sooner than I anticipated. Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay hits digital shelves on March 27th. The physical media hits shelves two weeks later, on April 10th. In about a month and a half, DC fans can add this one to their collections.

Check out the press release below for the much-needed details:

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay finds Amanda Waller’s top secret “Task Force X” – Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, Killer Frost, Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn and Copperhead – on a mission to retrieve a mystical object so powerful that they’re willing to risk their own lives to steal it. But the Suicide Squad isn’t the only group of villains seeking to possess the object. The race is on for the golden prize … and, to stay alive, second place isn’t an option.

Most home media buffs are always excited to hear about the extras that will be featured and it looks like DC will not be disappointing with this one.

As with most of their releases, they always have a sneak peek of their next animated outing. In this case, they’re re-doing the Death of Superman. I’d like to hear how they’re going to distinguish it from Superman: Doomsday, which came out in 2007.

And do my eyes deceive me? A commentary track? That’s not common. Even better, it’s with the great Alan Burnett and James Tucker. This is the movie to get for that commentary track alone.

Lastly, you peeked it briefly in the first trailer, seen below, but now we have high quality images of the cover art.

The Suicide Squad has been a particularly popular property as of late. At first, we saw the Suicide Squad on the hit CW TV series Arrow, and later that year, we got our first animated Suicide Squad movie, Assault on Arkham. Both of which did great justice to the characters. Unfortunately, Arrow no longer had the opportunity to develop Task Force X as we soon found out that DC Films decided to make a live-action Suicide Squad movie for their growing DC movie universe.

The live-action version of the antiheroes were unfortunately met with polarizing reviews. However, at the very least, the portrayals were memorable with Margot Robbie and Will Smith stealing the show. Two years later, it seems that the Suicide Squad is finally going to enter the DC animated movie universe (Assault on Arkham was a standalone movie set in the Arkhamverse). The next movie on the docket for the superior DC movie universe is Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay.

Just last week, we got a huge announcement of their rock star cast full of industry veterans and big name actors. Also, it’s great to see our beloved Tara Strong returning to voice Harley. She’ll never replace Arleen Sorkin, but she’ll do.

Less than a week later, we’re getting our first trailer via IGN.

Fight Evil with Evil

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t quite do it for me. I will be watching it, certainly, as I’ll watch any DC movie, animated or live-action. However, it’s just a lackluster trailer. It feels like it spent far too much time setting up the Suicide Squad rather than setting up the plot. After a live-action and an animated movie, I don’t think there’s a real need for an origin in the trailer. Naming each member of this Task Force X seemed too similar to the live-action movie, but I suppose with so many different rosters in their history, it’s important to name the members. Copperhead was certainly jarring to see.

However, the use of Vandal Savage is always going to get me excited. He’s by far of one of the most feared villains around, so much so that a team is required to defeat him, almost always. Can a group of villains like them really be able to defeat Vandal Savage though?

What do you think? Excited for another Suicide Squad movie?

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay will be released on digital and Blu-ray in the Spring of this year.
