It can’t truly be called a good summer if there isn’t a major event happening in the world of comics, whether it’s DC, Marvel, or beyond. We reported on a preview that surfaced earlier this month for Dark Days: The Forge, the synopsis reads:
“DARKNESS COMES TO THE DC UNIVERSE WITH THE MYSTERY OF THE FORGE! Aquaman, The Flash and more of DC’s pantheon of heroes suspect Batman of hiding a dark secret that could threaten the very existence of the multiverse! It’s an epic that will span generations – but how does it connect to the origins of the DC’s most legendary heroes?”
DC has also released colored versions of the Dark Days: The Forge #1 variants by Andy Kubert and John Romita Jr.
Just like how summers aren’t summer without an event, Batman isn’t Batman without some secret he’s hiding that the rest of the Justice League isn’t comfortable with.
Fans might remember a little story called Tower of Babel that showed that Bruce had contingency plans in place to defeat any and all members of the Justice League should they try to destroy or conquer Earth instead of protecting it, that were stolen by Ra’s al Ghul and used against them. This seems to be a similar thread, but with much graver stakes.
When will Batman learn to keep better guard of his secrets? And when will the League realize that with Batman being mortal and without special powers, this is how he protects himself and the innocent people of Earth from gods and monsters. I guess time will tell, starting with Dark Days: The Forge.
This event is being written by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV and illustrated by Andy Kubert, Jim Lee and John Romita Jr, and will culminate later in the year with Dark Nights: Metal.
Dark Days: The Forge #1 will be out on June 14th for $4.99.
