Rebirth’s Batman #1 Variant Will Make You Smile

We are less than a week away from DC’s Rebirth, but the creative team behind Batman is already teasing the future. Through his Instagram page, artist Rafael Albuquerque released this variant cover for Batman #1.

Here is DC’s synopsis:

“I AM GOTHAM” Chapter One

No one has ever stopped the Caped Crusader. Not The Joker. Not Two-Face. Not even the entire Justice League. But how does Batman confront a new hero who wants to save the city from the Dark Knight?

CAN’T MISS: Superstar artist David Finch returns to the Dark Knight alongside writer Tom King for this five-part storyline.

Two things instantly come to mind when looking at Albuquerque’s work. First, is this his nod to The Dark Knight Returns? Certainly seems like the Joker from the classic, which also turns 30 this year. Second, doesn’t he seem rather similar to Jared Leto’s version from the upcoming Suicide Squad?

Regardless, Batman #1 is available on June 15.
