Director Zack Snyder revealed a scene that was deleted from Batman v Superman on the premise that it was ‘dark’.

While some moviegoers may have thought of Batman v Superman as a dark film, there were some stuff that even Snyder thought was too dark for him.

SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE:

Recall in the film when Lex Luthor revealed that he kidnapped Martha Kent to blackmail Superman into killing Batman. There was an additional scene where Superman was searching for his mother.

“We had a scene that we cut from the movie where he tries to look for her when he finds out that Lex has got her. It was a slightly dark scene that we cut out because it sort of represented this dark side. Because when he was looking for his mom he heard all the cries of all the potential crimes going on in the city, you know when you look.

I kind of like the idea that he’s taught himself not to look because if he looks it’s just never-ending, right? You have to know when, as Superman, when to intervene and when not to. Or when not to, you can’t be everywhere at once, literally you can’t be everywhere at once, so he has to be really selective in a weird way about where he chooses to interfere.”

Snyder went on to describe Superman’s super-hearing ability is how he roots out crimes and cries for help. But when Superman is laser-focused on trying to find his mother, he purposely ignores all other crimes. The idea of somebody like Superman putting his own personal needs above other peoples’ is a really disturbing idea in itself. The inclusion of this scene could potentially make Superman look very unlikable and selfish, so it was a good idea that Snyder did not include it.
