It’s an understatement to say that people were not happy with some of the casting choices with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. People remain cautious about Jesse Eisenberg’s Luthor and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Neither Eisenberg or Gadot really fit the mold of what we expect from these characters. We’ve seen what Eisenberg’s Luthor is like and some have already formed opinions on him, but Gadot’s WW remains a bit of a mystery. Zack Snyder, director of BvS, as you would expect, seems to think that she’s pretty great.

Last week, Snyder was interviewed with an Australian news website called Filmink, in which he discusses the opportunity to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen and the casting of Gal Gadot.

On selecting their Wonder Woman, Snyder explains that the casting process was extensive, seeing hundreds of actresses, before narrowing it down to 6. The choice to cast Gadot seems to be the right one. He says,

“[T]he thing with Gal is that she’s strong, she’s beautiful, and she’s a kind person, which is interesting, but fierce at the same time. It’s that combination of being fierce but kind at the same time that we were looking for. She can get serious, but she’s amazingly fun to be around. And by the way, she really held her own with Ben in the screen test. Ben was like, ‘Whoa, that girl is something else!’ That was a good sign, because Ben is very tough in the scene, and he’s big and commanding. Anytime that you’re doing a test like that and you’re looking at the other person, you’re thinking, ‘Okay, that’s good stuff.’ That was part of the process, and over time as we got to know Gal, we found out how amazing she is.”

Pretty high praise considering Batfleck’s presence in the flick thus far. I still don’t quite believe that she looks entirely like Wonder Woman, but you just gotta have faith in these things. I think she’ll be good, but it’s tough to tell with the very little footage we have seen of her. I know there was a moment in the Comic con trailer that gave me chills. When she was knocked back into a piece of rubble and she smirked. She smirked! That’s Wonder Woman for me. Someone who truly enjoys the battle.

And lastly, Snyder comments on the brief humorous exchange between Bats and Supes at the tail end of the trailer.

“The ‘Is she with you?’ joke at the end of the trailer? You have to see the movie, because it gears into the drama of what’s happening, and if you see it in the context of the film, it completely makes sense that the two of them were trying to figure out who she is…”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will hit theatres on March 25th, 2016.
