After weeks of rumors we can finally confirm that James Wan will direct the solo big screen debut of Aquaman! This affirms my faith in the project and causes me to breathe a sigh of relief. Sure, Wan has found success with horror films such as Saw and The Conjuring, but he has also proven that he can do the action genre. Case in point: the obscenely successful Furious 7. I feel that a man who can not only create a dynamic action scene, but also knows how to focus on character is just what the King of Atlantis needs to become a box office sensation.

“The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material,” Greg Silverman, the studio’s president, creative development and worldwide production recently stated.

Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), will first be seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25, 2016) and Justice League (November 17, 2017). The solo Aquaman film will be produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder. Expect it to arrive in theaters July 27, 2018.
