Batman Eternal #11 Review

Synopsis: The Trial of Jim Gordon Begins.

The synopsis doesn’t describe this week’s issue of Batman: Eternal very well. Most of the issue takes place outside of Gotham, and Jim Gordon’s name is briefly mentioned once. Meanwhile, Batgirl tries to snag an actor in South America, Catwoman travels to the cemetery, and Spoiler… well, she spoils things.

Here are a few things to look for:

  • Mother visit
  • Film interrupted
  • Scorpions
  • Game show with a known billionaire
  • Family drama
  • Batman, Inc.
  • Red Hood
  • The Dark, stormy Knight

This week’s issue is called “Day of the Dads” and with some of the story lines I can understand why… I just don’t see the point. Tim Seeley took over the scripts this week, and Ian Bertram drew the book. Overall, I found it to be “meh.” Sure, it advanced the story a little and added on to what we’ve already read, it just didn’t do enough for me. Selina Kyle read a letter from her dad, Batgirl is on a mission to save hers, Alfred tries to talk to his daughter and Spoiler uncovers her father’s history. Anything completely dramatic? Nope. Anything you can’t afford to miss? Nope. Well, what about the art?

Meh.

It’s not that I don’t like Bertram’s art, I just don’t feel like it works in Batman’s world. The characters are unflattering, oddly shaped and just seem like they belong in a horror comic. I couldn’t get used to it.

Overall, this issue was a little disappointing after a few really solid issues. Hopefully they can get back on board next week.
