The comic book tie-in for Beware The Batman will come to an end this March after only six issues. A DC rep told The World’s Finest the following:
“We will not be continuing with the Beware The Batman comic book. We encourage you to check out some of our other kids comics titles like Teen Titans Go! and Scribblenauts Unmasked.”
This cancellation doesn’t bode well for the Beware The Batman property. The show was abruptly pulled from Cartoon Network’s airwaves in October and was supposed to return in January, which didn’t happen. Despite an indefinite hiatus, the first 13 episodes (two of which are yet to be aired), will be released on DVD February 18.
I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Cartoon Network pulling the plug on the show before episodes 14-26 have a chance to air. Despite how you may feel about the show, you have to admit it really wasn’t given a fighting chance. Aside from Happy Meal toys, there really wasn’t an actual toy line released for BTB and early cancellation of the comic book doesn’t help matters. I read the first issue of Beware The Batman and thought it was pretty good and will likely purchase the trade paperback when it’s released.
In the meantime, you can pick up Beware The Batman #4 this Wednesday, January 29, in comic shops everywhere.
