Hans Zimmer: Scoring Batman v. Superman Film may be “Complicated”

Hans Zimmer, composer of scores for Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, believes that the process of composing a score for the upcoming Batman v. Superman/Man of Steel 2 will not be simple, in that he does not wish to revisit the score from Nolan’s Batman; Zimmer believes that the new Batman score should stand separately from Nolan’s Batman, and should have its own life force.

Zimmer said:

It’s creating a bit of a problem in my head right now…Quite honestly, I’ve gotta sit down with Zack [Snyder] and have a chat with him about what he’s trying to do because what I don’t want to do is go back to that well.  It’s a different Batman; Christian Bale and what I did with Chris [Nolan], that needs to have its autonomous life.  I don’t want to go and now appropriate that and put that into the other Batman.

Clearly, Zimmer does not desire to recycle musical motifs, melodies, or cues from Nolan’s Trilogy, while he seems interested in providing a a fresh aural experience for the Bat-fans; however, the proof will be in the pudding, and we will see what he conjures up in the secret hidden Bat-cave music-room.

Of course I can see myself doing it, first of all because I love working with Zack. I think you can tell from [the Man Of Steel score] we had a lot of fun, and I think it was inventive.

Considering his existing body of Bat-music-work, we can safely assume that the musical themes and phrasing he decides upon will be good, if not majestic and powerfully effective in scope and presentation; however, the task of providing a holistic score for two legendary figures like Batman and Superman (while representing them individually, as well) might not be an easy one.  Still, it shall be done!
