Batman: Arkham Origins – Telling the Origins of the Dark Knight, Not Batman

VG247 has released a short video featuring Ben Mattes, senior producer on Batman: Arkham Origins, and some gameplay footage of one the game’s predator mode stages.

Unfortunately, I’ve been preoccupied with so many things that I haven’t really been counting down towards the release of Batman: Arkham Origins. I know, shame on me. Well, this video popped up recently and although there isn’t anything new to report on, the video is definitely worth a watch.

The video features very brief gameplay footage of one of the predator mode stages, however, this time the Bats is infiltrating the GCPD headquarters in order to access evidence pertinent to an investigation. The video continues to an interview being conducted with senior producer, Ben Mattes, wherein VG247 asked him exactly what story the team was interested in telling. Mattes’ answer was pretty insightful, saying ” We were not so interested in telling the origins of Batman, as we are telling the origins of the Dark Knight…”

It’s interesting to note the difference here. It seems to me that  the literal origins of Batman seem, to him, uninteresting and almost embarrassing, which I beg to differ,  and that they were more interested in the reputation and the legacy that Batman would eventually develop. Though I’m slightly offended to hear his take on a beginner’s Batman, I’m finding that I’m pretty impressed to hear how much thought and care WB Montreal put into this story.

Batman: Arkham Origins will be released on October 25th, 2013.

What do you think of Mattes saying that they were more so interested in telling the origins of the Dark Knight and not Batman? Let me know.
